忘れるほど待ったゎ、
これは沖縄の紅型の帯、
かなり古典的な柄。
大学の時の友達が沖縄に帰って、
当事これを生業としてました。
卒業して何年だったかなぁ･･････
5年は経ってたかなぁ、
「広島で沖縄物産展をするから会わないか?」
その時見たのがこの山の模様の反物。
めちゃめち 欲しい！ と思った。
「何時でもいいよ、あんたの出来るときに描いてくれへん？」
「うん、いいよ、 待ってってね、」
私の大好きな 「福井産鬼シボ縮緬」 を送った。
バリバリ ウチナーンチュ（沖縄人）な彼女の時間は
ゆっくりと流れる。
ヤマトンチュー（本土人）の時間の何倍もゆっくりと・・・・・・
何年経っただろうか･････ 忘れてたよ、
1枚の手紙とともに 帯が送られてきた。
「 遅くなって ゴメン 」

2007/10 多分、10年ぶりに再会。
そして彼女は 「御婆ちゃん」 になりました。
私は沖縄民謡を唄ってサンシンを弾いています。
The Late Obi
The dye used for this most vibrant Obi is called Bingata which is a most famous dye that originated in Okinawa in the 14th century. My Ristuko used this dye to paint my Obi because she is a maker of the dye and lives and works in Okinawa.
Even though it looks like something from the psychedelic 60's, it is very traditional design and use of colors. This design is called the shadow of the island in the spring.
Okinawa is the southernmost island of Japan and is probably on the same parallel as Hawaii, so it is almost tropical, being hot and relaxed, hence the design and colors used.
The colors themselves are not that bright, but the combination and juxtaposition is exciting and vibrant. the white line that defines each mountain is an important element in helping to balance and enliven adjacent colors.
I gave the white Obi to my friend in 1978 asking for the design you see now. the years went by and I forgot about it. one day many years latter, I received a parcel from her in the mail.
This was unusual in itself. She would call only once every two or three years and never answered my letter.
I opened he parcel to find my Obi and letter. I opened the letter and found a short note which read;
"Sorry I'm late." Ristuko
